Embajador I: A benchmark in aluminium cladding and energy efficiency
If we talk about projects where aluminium composite panels and ventilated façade systems can transform a residential building, a clear example is the Embajador I Building, located at Condado de Treviño 2, Madrid.
In a mainly residential neighbourhood, with many buildings from the 1970s–80s that required refurbishment, this composite panel cladding project made it possible to modernise one of these old constructions, improving the appearance of the surroundings and becoming a clear example to encourage the renovation of other buildings in the area.
Carried out by the architect De Lapuerta y Campo Arquitectos. The selected STACBOND panel finish was Bronze Metallic, with an FR core and STB-T-REM system, giving the building:
- Contemporary design
- Energy efficiency
- Sustainability
This project was recognised with the INMOMAT Award for Best Energy Refurbishment (COAM, November 2023), establishing it as a benchmark in cladding and ventilated façades.
Energy challenge solved with aluminium cladding
The project faced the challenge of improving its energy performance without losing its architectural identity. This was successfully achieved, as the installation of STACBOND aluminium composite panels allowed for:
- 40% energy savings thanks to the new thermal envelope
- Reduction of CO₂ emissions, contributing to sustainability
- Improved energy rating: from D to C, increasing comfort and the building’s value
In addition, the cladding made it possible to integrate terraces, slabs, and support areas, creating a modern, durable, and aesthetically pleasing ventilated façade.
What advantages can cladding façades with aluminium composite panels offer?
This refurbishment demonstrates why they are a perfect option for residential projects:
- Energy efficiency: they act as a “second skin” for ventilated façades
- Durability and low maintenance: thanks to aluminium’s resistance.
- Aesthetic flexibility: a wide range of colours, textures, and finishes.
- Sustainability: recyclable materials and reduced on-site emissions.
This type of cladding not only enhances aesthetics, but also optimises energy performance, extends the building’s lifespan, and provides significant cost savings.

Recognition and Leadership in Innovation
The INMOMAT Award granted by COAM highlights how innovation in materials and façade systems can transform traditional buildings into sustainable and attractive spaces, serving as a benchmark for future refurbishment projects in Spain and Europe.
- The trophies for this first edition were made with low-carbon concrete, reinforcing the sustainable focus of the event.
- Out of 62 projects submitted, Embajador I was one of the 6 awarded.
Embajador I demonstrates that design, technology, and quality materials make it possible to:
- Energy-efficient refurbishments
- Modern and durable façades
- Transform the appearance and performance of a building
For architects, developers, and owners, this project serves as a benchmark example in aluminium composite panels, ventilated façades, and cladding.
