STACBOND Scenarios: An elevator, a stream, and a new way of understanding urban architecture
At STACBOND, we believe that a good project does not always require large dimensions. Sometimes, a small, well-thought-out intervention can completely transform the experience of a place. The urban elevator next to the stream in Astigarraga, designed by Barru Arkitektura, is a perfect example of this.
This project arises from a very specific need: to improve accessibility between two levels of the municipality, overcoming a height difference of nearly ten meters. But far from being resolved as a purely technical piece of infrastructure, the elevator becomes a sensitive architectural element, integrated into the landscape and with a strong aesthetic presence.
Infrastructure in dialogue with its surroundings
The route begins with a footbridge that follows the course of the stream, inviting pedestrians to slow down and observe. The architecture does not impose itself: it adapts, accompanies and enhances the natural environment. The elevator appears as a discreet yet expressive landmark, naturally connecting the city and the landscape.
This is where the building’s skin takes on a leading role.

STACBOND as a material for expression
The elevator shaft is clad with STACBOND aluminium composite panels, arranged in a geometric pattern of triangular pieces with STB-145 Black and STB-M01 Natural Mirror finishes. This combination allows the architecture to reflect vegetation, changing light and the movement of its surroundings, enabling the volume to blend in while still standing out.
Beyond its visual impact, the use of STACBOND provides lightness, durability and versatility—key qualities for urban projects exposed to intensive use and outdoor conditions. A clear example of how our systems adapt equally well to large-scale architectural projects and to smaller-scale interventions with high added value.

Small-scale works, big changes
This project shows that everyday architecture can also inspire emotion. That public infrastructure can be functional, accessible and, at the same time, beautiful. And that the right materials make it possible to go beyond mere construction to create high-quality urban experiences.
At STACBOND, this is precisely the vision we work with: collaborating on projects that improve people’s lives, whether in large urban developments, landmark buildings or small-scale works that transform a place through sensitivity and design.

STACBOND Scenarios
The Astigarraga elevator is not just a functional structure. It is a scenario where architecture, material and surroundings tell a shared story. A story that reflects our way of understanding design: technical solutions that become identity, landscape and experience.
